Course Details
Have you ever wanted to learn some new woodworking skills? Come to the tranquil, Ellekers Wood and develop a host of practical skills with Richard, returning home with a bounty of new, hand-made woodenware.
A fun and informative three days, suitable for beginners; Day one starts with basic axe and knife skills making a spatula, progressing to a carved spoon. Next, using an axe and shavehorse, you will practice leg making using a drawknife.
On Day two, participants will be taught the basic principles of pole lathe turning and turn a bowl on a foot powered lathe.
The grand finale, on the last day, will be to put into practice all your new skills and make a traditional three-legged stool.
The course will be relaxing, fun and equip you to carry on with your own journey in woodworking with a set of new skills. You are welcome to bring your own tools if you’d like, but all equipment necessary will be provided by Richard.
Catering:
For all courses, a hearty, healthy lunch is provided (please let your tutor know of any dietary requirements when booking), along with tea, coffee and water. Breakfast and evening meal is self-catered, with firewood and charcoal-based cooking available.
We also provide firewood, brew-kit, washing up and cooking facilities, crockery and cutlery.
Guests should bring; barbecue food or pans for cooking on a fire for breakfast and evening meals.
Facilities:
Facilities include covered workshop spaces, an undercover outdoor cooking set-up, comfortable compost toilet, plenty of loo roll, and handwashing. A good stone track leads to the wood,where there is space to park, please keep speed under 10mph.
Tutor Bio
Richard is a Greenwood worker and teacher with lots of experience over a host of disciplines. Originally from Durham, now based in Leeds, he begun with a spoon carving addiction and found a new direction in life. He has taught bowl turning, spoon carving and stool making and is currently working on traditional stick chair making. He has a friendly, easy-going manner and will encourage you to find you own style.
